Open Day: “Live the Museum in another way!

When?

Sunday, September 29, 2019

What happened?

About 2000 visitors had the opportunity to "live the Museum in another way", living a unique "museum experience". The Museum has "lived" on Open Day, an event that was organized on Sunday, September 29, with the launch of its educational programs and actions for this year's season.

An action to every part of the Museum

In the permanent exhibition, further to the collections, there was a point of interest and action for all.

The Morse telegraph, the antique phones, the "Titanic" and Marconi, were the starting point for a museum journey into the telecommunications world. A unique synthesis of new technology with the past, offered a "guided tour" of the cable layer, "Thaless of Milies", through virtual reality (VR + 360), where young and old, "entered" the ship's sanctuaries and explored it!

A robot, Dino, welcomes you

A big surprise awaited everyone when they met Dino, a 1.10m-tall "live" robot who not only talked to them but also encouraged them to take selfies! Something that no one denied, of course, and was never tired of constantly answering various questions that everyone wanted to ask him.

A face, a sketch!

A "caricaturist", tireless but also extremely quick, sketched over 100 faces, smiling and cheerful, next to antique phones and a 1936 telephone booth!

It is good to "build in the sand"!

With the "sand box", on the 2nd floor, a special sand structure, unique to a museum in Greece, our little friends created communication networks & “created” pieces of a fantastic world of their own!

Juggler: Learn a job and leave it!

One juggler made his own toys, with balls, and more, but he trained and taught us the "tricks" of his art, revealing secrets that make life magical!

Book: Another Friend!

In the ever-crowded, Courtyard of the Museum, two telephone booths, one old and one younger, operated, in a different way than usual: like a gift library! Books, lots of books, in one room for the little ones, in the other for the big ones. Result; If it were a bookstore it would have sold out!

Entertainment

A lot of ice cream, frozen lemonade, orange juice and DJ's music choices complemented the festive atmosphere at the Telecommunications Museum's Open Day, beginning with another year full of programs and activities.

They visited us

The visitors "stocktaking" is impressive, given that from 10 am to 5 pm, nearly two thousand people in a steady flow formed a human "river" that, despite the "overcrowding", lost none the small events that had been erected throughout the museum.
