The exhibition "Photographic Click on Women",hosted at the Panos and Elias Iliopoulos Museum, will put the woman at the centre of the photographic lens, the world, human relations and life in general - as a creator and her creation - and its opening will take place on 24 August inFiliatra (Messenia, Peloponnese).
The photographic material of the exhibition comes from the collections of the Iliopoulos Museum and the Telecommunications Museum and dates back to the first post-war decades. The Woman and her World is the common protagonist everywhere, but the visual message in each photograph differs, depending on the environment in which it was taken and the technique used by its creator.
The photographs from the Telecommunications Museum archive depict women famous for their lives and work in politics, arts and sports, which were published in the media of each era and seen by thousands of eyes, helping to keep the celebrity status of the women depicted alive to this day.
On the other side, the photographs selected from the rich collection of the photographer and painter Panos Iliopoulos (1897-1985), in whose honour and his son, also a painter, Ilias the Iliopoulos Museum was created, feature women from the province of Trifylliain personal moments from their daily lives. These photographs were captured by Panos (in 1930 he opened a photography studio in Filiatra town)
The coexistence of the two collections aims to provoke multiple dialogues, of the self (us) with the world, the private with the public, the local-national with the global, composing an inclusive landscape of life.
The Museum of Panos and Ilias Iliopoulos is located in Filiatra, at 11 Zacharianon Street, and was founded by Antonis Iliopoulos (1938-2023), architect and second son of Panos Iliopoulos (he had five children in total). Since 2019, in addition to exhibitions of the paintings, photographs and drawings of the two brothers, it hosts exhibitions of other artists, and organizes parallel events, such as educational programs for children and photography courses for adults.
The exhibition "Photographic Click on Women" is under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Sports and is kindly sponsored by the Captain Vassilis & Carmen Konstantakopoulos Foundation.
In the Collections of the Telecommunications Museum you can see objects and memorabilia of the 2004 Games, such as collectible pins, telecards, brochures, pens, key rings, tickets, etc., which recall memories of the Athens Olympics, which, thanks to the willingness and enthusiasm of the volunteers and all those who worked for their realization, left a positive imprint in the consciousness of the Greek society.
