International Women's Day
Our Museum participates in the thematic digital exhibition of Search Culture.gr with a photo concerning the "women's issue". Search Culture is the national digital repository that manages cultural heritage and includes 800,000 items from 82 Greek institutions. The Telecommunications Museum displays its collections in Search culture and in Europeana (a digital platform that includes 50 million items from 2,600 European institutions) with 4,527 items.
The telephotography shows the first mass night demonstration of women in the centre of Athens on 25/6/1981, with placards and torches. Women gathered in the university courtyards, holding banners with slogans about the "vulgar" teasing in the streets, rape and terror of men who do not let them walk freely at night. Since the beginning of the 1980s, the women's movement has been mobilising in Greece to combat sexist violence.
