What happened<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday 20 October<\/strong>, the Telecommunications Museum<\/strong> participated in the activities of the exhibition “The Restoration of Optimism”<\/strong>, which took place at the Athens Municipal Gallery <\/strong>with works from its permanent collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition “The Restoration of Optimism” <\/strong>is part of the Athens Municipality’s anniversary events “1974 and 1944: Athens Celebrates its Freedom”<\/strong>, which also commemorates two important anniversaries for Athens: the 80th anniversary of the city’s liberation from German occupation and the 50th anniversary of the restoration of democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Museum’s Head, <\/strong>Mrs. Nikoletta Liakostavrou<\/strong>, and the historian-curator, Mr. Sotiris Koutmanis<\/strong>, presented telephotographs from the Museum’s rich collection, which relate to political and social events of the pre-dictatorial and dictatorial period, as well as the post-opposition period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Museum’s <\/strong>archive of telephotographs<\/strong> includes 13,320<\/strong> telephotographs from 1949<\/strong> to 1988<\/strong>. These are photographs depicting various aspects of the country’s political, social, sporting and cultural life, which were used to serve photojournalistic reportage of the period. All the telephotographs have been digitized<\/strong> and part of it is available here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
