The Art of Communication at the Telecommunications Museum
Parents with children in preadolescence and adolescence talked to child psychologist Mrs. Electra Ktena and got helpful tips on how to approach and achieve the best agreements with their children:
What to do when my child wants to go out every Saturday?
How can I persuade my child to do every day the school homework?
What should I do when he/she doesn't want to talk to me and stays in his/her room with the door locked?
These and many other questions were answered by the child psychologist giving helpful tips to the parents in order to maintain a good and effective communication with their children. Here are some:
- I consider my expectations and determine what is negotiable and what is not
- I discuss utilizing active listening skills
- I learn about my child's world (music, games, social media communication) and connect with him/her through it
- I make effective use of the agreement, negotiation and logical consequences
- I talk about my feeling
- I find zones of common activity of all members of the family and connect through them
Oppositions, negotiations, communication, agreements, disagreements, feelings, conflicts, connection - all these were discussed in October at the Telecommunications Museum, leading parents and children to sign their own personal agreement, an agreement that starts at the Museum and continues at home!
