Telecommunications Museum at the 17th Conference on the History of Greek Photography (Photographic Encounters)
Speech on: ‘The history of Telecommunications in a 1970s shoebox / OTE Photograph Collection’
The OTE Telecommunications Museum is participating in the 17th Conference on the History of Greek Photography (Photographic Encounters), which is being held in Chania on 1 and 2 April.
The speakers will consist of Ms Nikoletta Liakostavrou, the Head of the Museum and Mr Dimitris Mouzakitis, curator of the collection of the Photographic Archive. The range of the Archive’s themes and the time span it covers will be presented and highlighted.
Six thousand photographs, taken by major photographers such as Spyros Meletzis and the Megalokonomou Brothers make up the Museum’s Photograph Collection. Buildings, facilities, events, and, mainly, people in action create the pictorial record of the development of telecommunications in Greece: Development, Modernisation, the Technology of Communication, historical moments that led to where we are today.
-We documented and digitised the photographic material of the Archive
-We have enriched the Archive from external sources
-We capitalised on the photographs in publications, synergies with other museums & at the permanent exhibition
-We created original communication stories
-We communicated the photos on social media and on company channels
-We designed the strategy for the next stages of utilising and enriching the photographic Archive.
For the Telecommunications Museum, the photographs are a key interpretive tool, enhancing the visitor experience!
