School guided tours

The guided tour of the Museum’s exhibition spaces, which makes use of new technologies and modern digital media, makes the journey of discovery truly exciting!

The tour begins in the Ancient Greece gallery, where we learn how messages were transmitted using fire and water; we then move on to the discovery of electricity and learn how Morse, a painter by trade, invented the telegraph and Morse code. We examine old telephones, learn how people made calls if they didn’t have a phone at home, discover the red coin-operated phone, and learn about the important role telephone operators played before phones became automatic. We learn about the cable ship “Thales of Miletus,” get an up-close look at optical fiber, and discover how we used to send photos before cell phones existed.

On the fully renovated second floor, we discover the Museum’s new thematic sections: the global telegraph and telephone network of the 19th century and how it influenced various aspects of daily life, the history of the Internet and gaming, analog and digital telephone exchanges, the mobile phone exhibition hall, and even one of the first television studios from the 1960s!
