From the war loudspeakers of Alexander the Great… to Internet!

When?

14 & 21 October 2018

What happened?

The Telecommunications Museum has vigorously launched its family plans for the new season 2018-19, with an activity whose theme was communications "in times of war"! Moreover, in light of the celebrations held in the context of "Athens World Book Capital", at the Museum and in a series of its programs, there will be a connection between exhibits and books, which afterwards the children will read in the auditorium of the exhibition area.

A surprise visit!

An unexpected guest made his appearance at the Museum and met the children: “Mr. War”! He came to remind the deep connection of telecommunications with war times and how he, in essence, was the cause for the development of telecommunications, ever since antiquity!

War loudspeakers then, bullhorns today

The war loudspeakers of Alexander the Great, the precursor of today’s bullhorn, via which his soldiers communicated among camps, “sounded” once more for the children, with the help of modern technology. Then, they read telegrams from the years of Occupation, touched authentic military telephone devices from the museum collections and, “leaping” forward in time, talked about the era of Internet.

"Peace", with the help of technology

The program ended with a peace gesture, since the children, via Sandbox, "transformed" Mr. War to colorful butterflies and by rhythmically clapping their hands “scattered” all war messages!

We were visited

A great number of parents and children, 295 people in total, participated in the educational activities of the Museum, at the programs that were held in October.
